An exciting week comes to an end for me: The Neos team met in Vienna for a crucial sprint to finalize the remaining open items for the eagerly anticipated Neos 9.0 and Flow 9.0 versions. I had the privilege of representing Flownative on-site, while Karsten, Christian, and Markus worked intensively remotely.
Responsibly sourced: The new Event Sourced Content Repository
After years of conceptual work and development, we can proudly announce: Neos 9.0 with the Event Sourced Content Repository has been released! This release marks the most significant technical overhaul since the introduction of the React-based editing UI and lays the foundation for the next decade of content management with Neos.
The new Content Repository offers a complete history of all changes to your content, improved scalability for projects with hundreds of thousands of content elements, and out-of-the-box audit trail functionality. The new architecture unlocks performance potential that was previously only possible with a two-stack solution.

Pushing Neos Users into the Right Direction – Multi-Dimensionally
As a team that has been actively involved in Neos development since its foundation, we see Neos 9.0 as a game-changer for Neos users. The new architecture enables:
- Bidirectional links: Finally, you can easily determine which content references a specific element
- Multi-dimensional content sharing: Parts of content can be selectively shared across dimensions (e.g., languages)
- Smarter publishing: Changes are updated granularly per property, not as an entire node
- Improved integrity: Orphaned nodes are a thing of the past
For developers, the new Content Repository offers strictly typed APIs with IDE support, extensibility through the CommandHookInterface and Projections, as well as standalone usability outside of Neos.
Our Contribution
As a small team, Flownative has always contributed disproportionately to the advancement of Neos. We were fully committed to this sprint as well. This reflects both our commitment to the Neos project and our conviction that the Event Sourced Content Repository is a turning point for the system. We also want to encourage other companies to support Neos – whether through project participation or financial support via the Neos Foundation.
Who is Neos 9.0 suitable for?
We recommend using Neos 9.0 for new projects starting now. Neos 9 has already proven itself in several projects, and this approach saves you from a larger unnecessary upgrade from 8.x to 9.0. For existing smaller websites, an upgrade is usually straightforward. For more complex projects, it might make sense to wait for Neos 8.4, which will include special preparations for a later upgrade to 9.0.
Flownative Beach and Neos 9.0
Beach supports Neos 9.0 from the start. We worked on improving compatibility in the Neos Core right up until the release and want to encourage you to start with Neos 9 as soon as possible.
Additionally, we're ready with our Lifeguard service to support you with any questions about upgrading to Neos 9.0 and to assist with any adjustments needed in your project-specific packages.

The Next Chapter: Content Management Rewritten
The new Event Sourced Content Repository is not just a technical upgrade – it's a restart for the content management capabilities of Neos. We're proud to be part of this development and are excited to share the fruits of years of conceptual work with the community.
Stay tuned for further updates and deeper insights into the new features of Neos 9.0! And be sure to read the official release blog post on neos.io.
